New decision on the soldier who leaked military documents in the US
Jack Teixeira appeared before a federal judge today in Worcester, Massachusetts.
In court, where he arrived dressed in an orange prison robe, Judge David Hennessy questioned Teixeira’s credibility, saying: “At this point, the evidence shows that the defendant has grossly violated his promise to protect the information and security of United States and its allies. .” he used the phrase.
Judge Hennessey ordered that Teixeira remain in custody without bail until the next hearing.
Teixeira’s lawyer asked that his client be kept under house arrest, while prosecutors demanded that the pending trial request be rejected on the grounds that the 21-year-old soldier could escape or take refuge in a foreign state.
Private Teixeira faces 25 years in prison if convicted.
EVENT HISTORY
Jack Teixeira, a member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was arrested on April 14 for allegedly posting classified documents belonging to the US military on the Internet.
It was noted that the documents that Teixeira leaked online, which had the US Joint Chiefs of Staff coat of arms, included information about possible security vulnerabilities in the defense of Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, and the number of UK Special Forces allegedly active in the country.
The documents were also claimed to include up-to-date military and intelligence information on important topics, including intelligence activities on Russia, Israel, Canada, South Korea, China, and Iran’s nuclear program.
The leaks were noted to be as significant as the 2010 WikiLeaks scandal, in which US diplomats’ crypto was leaked, and the 2013 Snowden crisis, when digital surveillance activities were leaked. (AA)
