Arab League Syria Statement
According to the Al Arabiya television channel of Saudi Arabia, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu Gayt, made statements before the 32nd Summit of Leaders of the Arab League, which will be held tomorrow in Jeddah. Abu Gayt said: “Syria’s return to the Arab League is an effort to facilitate the process of the Arabs to find a solution to the crisis in Syria.”
Regarding the Arab League countries’ relations with Syria, Abu Gayt said: “Syria’s return to the Arab League does not mean that all Arab countries will restart their relations with Syria. Each country will decide according to its own vision”.
The Arab League suspended Syria’s membership on November 12, 2011 due to the civil war. The foreign ministers of the member states of the Union agreed on the return of Syria to the Arab League at the Meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on May 7.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani said in a statement yesterday: “We do not want to go beyond the Arab consensus on Syria’s return to the Arab League. Each country has its own decision, ”he said. (AA)
