Raid on the office of the Sabah Avrupa newspaper in Germany
German police reportedly raided the Frankfurt office of the Sabah newspaper, where the European news center is located, and detained German representative İsmail Erel and news director Cemil Albay.
According to information received from Sabah newspaper sources, the German police searched the houses of İsmail Erel and Cemil Albay and the European office of the Sabah newspaper and confiscated computers and telephones.
It was claimed that there is still not enough information about the purpose of the raid. It was learned that the Ministry of Foreign Relations and professional organizations intervened for the release of the two journalists.
Diplomatic sources reported that the detention of the two journalists was unacceptable in terms of press freedom and they informed the German authorities of this. The sources noted that the issue was the subject of protests in both Ankara and Berlin, the treatment of the journalists was unacceptable, and high-level talks with German authorities for the release of the journalists continue.
