Russian rocket attacks on Kiev
Anti-aircraft systems have repelled Russian airstrikes on Kiev and other places in Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said on Telegram. “Explosions in Kiev. Some in the Solomyansky district”, writes for example the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitsjko, who also reports that debris fell on the zoo and cars caught fire. Three were reported injured.
According to the newspaper The Kyiv Independent, “at least ten explosions” were heard in the capital in the night between Monday and Tuesday. Eyewitnesses in Kiev told Reuters news agency they heard several explosions that sounded like anti-aircraft systems destroying objects. It is unclear whether those objects were missiles or drones.
Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine arrested for bribing millions of people
In Ukraine, the president of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyaziev, was arrested for receiving bribes of 3 million dollars (2.76 million euros). This was reported by the Ukrainska Pravda media.
Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau released a photo of bundles of banknotes on a sofa, but did not reveal further details. According to Ukrainian media, other Supreme Court judges were also searched.
Widespread corruption was one of the main criticisms of the West against Ukraine before the Russian invasion in February 2022. In June, Ukraine received the status of a candidate member of the European Union, which requires, among other , that the country fights corruption.
