Financial Times election analysis: In search of the spirit of opposition
The Financial Times, one of Britain’s most respected newspapers, published a remarkable analysis of the presidential and parliamentary elections.
While using the headline “Erdogan’s Election Lead Has Accelerated Efforts To Seek Opposition Spirit In Turkey”, “Presidential Candidate Kılıçdaroğlu Faces A Very Difficult Challenge In The Runoff Of Elections To Be Held Two Weeks Later Instead of ending Erdogan’s 20-year rule, elections held on Sunday triggered the opposition bloc’s soul-searching process.
“WORST SCENARIO FOR KILIÇDAROĞLU”
While the opposition rejects Erdogan’s first-round win, the result presents one of the worst-case scenarios for Kılıçdaroğlu.
It was also noted that Erdogan mocked Kılıçdaroğlu in his speech last night, commenting that “election fatigue will be a serious problem for the opposition”. The newspaper wrote that Kılıçdaroğlu could fight against both the AKP and the parties within the Nation Alliance. The Financial Times reported that “Iyi Party leader Akşener rejected the candidacy in March. Now some opposition supporters are concerned that there are divisions between the parties,” he recalled.
