Erdogan’s AK Party headquarters in Ankara has been temporarily evacuated
The headquarters of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s conservative AK party in Ankara has been temporarily evacuated. This was reported by the Turkish branch of the BBC. A security official tells the BBC the entire building is being searched for a possible bomb threat. After that, if all was in order, people would probably be allowed back in.
AK Party Vice President Hamza Dag says on Twitter that the search is “routine” and related to security measures. Whether Erdogan himself is at headquarters is unknown. On Sunday morning he announced that he will follow the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections from Istanbul and not from Ankara. On Sunday afternoon, however, he went to Ankara for unknown reasons.
Kurdish politician detained: protect your voice
Jailed Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas called on citizens and serving officials to count votes so as not to leave their positions.
“Never leave the polls and electoral commissions, even if it takes days for the results to be final,” tweeted the former leader of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, the country’s third largest party. “Protect your votes, all of Turkey wins,” he said, adding that the opposition should claim victory in the first round.
Anka News Agency: Opposition Leader Kılıçdaroğlu ;Oct
According to the private news agency Anka, opposition leader Kılıçdaroğlu is ahead with slightly fewer votes. His CHP party said its candidate was in the lead, according to his data, and on track to cross the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff election and be declared president Sunday night.
According to Mayor Mansur Yavas of the capital Ankara, opposition candidate Kilicdaroglu is slightly ahead of Erdogan in the polls. Yavas said in a joint conference with Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu that according to CHP data, Kilicdaroglu has 47.42% of the vote, Erdogan 46.80% and Ogan 5.33%. He added that the CHP currently has information on 91,913 out of 193,169 ballot boxes.
AKP angry with opposition leaders
A spokesman for Erdoğan’s ruling AKP party accused opposition leaders of “attempting to assassinate the national will” questioning the findings of the state-run Anadolu News Agency. ‘Even before the results are final, the opposition alliance spokesman and mayors suddenly appear on TV. As usual, they have started saying that the Anadolu agency is manipulating the data,” the spokesman said.
Incidentally, Erdogan’s interim lead is already expected, because votes in big cities are often counted later. And that’s exactly where the opposition has a lot of support.
