Former soldier who strangled a black homeless man in the US turns himself in
Penny, a former US Marine, was taken to an official vehicle by officers in handcuffs after proceedings at the police station from which she came.
In a brief statement to the press as Penny entered the police station, her lawyer, Thomas Kenniff, said his client wanted no harm, “acting with the kind of honesty and dignity that is characteristic of who he is and his service. honored”.
Penny, who was taken to Manhattan Criminal Court in a black official vehicle, is expected to appear in court in the last few hours.

Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man with mental health issues, displayed aggressive behavior towards passengers at a subway station on May 1. Neely had died while trying to restrain him by being strangled by former US Marine Daniel Penny.
The 24-year-old soldier, who was first arrested, was later released. Her lawyer, Thomas Kenniff, argued that Penny was trying to protect herself and the other passengers at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Neely yelled at the passengers but did not attack.
The homeless man’s death has sparked outrage and a series of protests for days.
According to US media reports, the homeless man was arrested 42 times on charges including not paying wages, stealing and assaulting three women.
