WHAT HAPPENED?
On Tuesday, May 9, the Israeli army launched an attack on besieged Gaza, claiming it was targeting the leaders of the Islamic Jihad Movement.
Among those killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza in the past three days were five high-ranking members of Islamic Jihad, as Palestinian groups responded by firing hundreds of rockets and mortar shells from Gaza into Israel.
Tensions in the region rose when Palestinian prisoner Hıdır Adnan died on May 2, after an 87-day hunger strike against Israel’s “administrative detention” in prison without trial. Israel had refused to release Adnan’s body to his family. (AA)
