Pakistan’s Constitutional Court has ruled that the detention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan is “unlawful” and that he must be released immediately.
According to Geo News television, the Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI) appeal against Khan’s arrest was considered in the Constitutional Court. The court ruled that the detention of former Prime Minister Khan was “unlawful” and that he should be released immediately.
In Pakistan’s parliament on April 10, 2022, in the confidence vote, Imran Khan’s government fell with 174 votes in favor. Khan started a march from Lahore to Islamabad on October 28, 2022, arguing that the coalition government did not declare early elections.
Khan was wounded in both legs when his convoy was fired on in Wazirabad on November 3, 2022. One person was killed and 13 people injured in the attack. On May 8, the Pakistani military described former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claims that a top intelligence official was behind his assassination as “irresponsible and baseless.”
Han was arrested on May 9 by decision of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The development in question came after Khan accused a top intelligence official of being behind the assassination attempt against him. (AA)
