Brazil temporarily banned Telegram

According to Brazilian press reports, the court took action after Telegram attacked Brazil, which wanted to present a bill to prevent disinformation on the Internet.

As part of the decision made by Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, Telegram’s activities were first suspended for 72 hours.

Telegram, in the message it sent to its users yesterday, used the phrase “an attack on democracy in Brazil” regarding the disinformation bill. Claiming that Brazil could destroy the modern internet with this bill, Telegram argued that it would harm the services of social networking site companies.

On April 27, a federal court in Brazil ordered a temporary ban on Telegram after the messaging service refused to share information about neo-Nazi group administrators with police.

Google, Apple and four Brazilian telecommunications companies have been ordered to remove Telegram from their app stores and other platforms. The ban was lifted May 1 by the federal appeals court. (AA)
