TikTok ban in Austria

TikTok ban in Austria

In a press release, the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Karner, shared with the public the decision made in line with the examinations of the TikTok app by the expert committee formed under the Ministry of the Interior since February.

Noting that public officials can use TikTok on their personal devices, Karner stated that the use of this application on official mobile phones at the federal level is prohibited and that the application in question belongs to the Chinese state, raising several concerns about information and data security.

Together with the federal government, the State of Upper Austria also banned the use of TikTok on its employees’ corporate mobile phones for similar reasons.

Many countries in the US and Europe have banned the use of the Chinese social media platform TikTok on official devices belonging to public employees. (AA)
