An Interpol scoop: They asked the public for help
Interpol, the international police force based in France, has appealed for the public’s help for 22 women who were murdered in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany between 1979 and 2019, but whose identity could not be found.
Interpol launched Operation Identify Me by sharing on its website the robot photos of 22 women and the physical characteristics, accessories, clothing and videos of each woman.
CELEBRITIES ATTENDED THE PROMOTION
The promotional video of his operation included the participation of actress Carice van Houten, who starred in the Game of Thrones series, actress Veerle Baetens, musical artists S10 and Axelle Red, boxing champion Regina Halmich and sports journalist Katrin Müller -Hohenstein. The promotional campaign featured the words of Carice van Houten. “Most of the 22 victims were brutally murdered, and some were abused or starved before they died,” Houten said. The identities of the women have yet to be determined, in part because they are from countries other than their country of origin. “It is possible that their bodies have been left in our countries to hinder forensic investigations,” she said.
NAMES ARE THE KEY TO MANY MURDER MYSTERIES
Suspecting that some of the murdered women came from certain parts of Eastern Europe, Interpol stressed that the identification could also provide evidence about the killers.
“In similar investigations, the identification of the victim ultimately led to the arrest of a suspect,” said Anja Allendorf of the German police.
Belgian police stressed that they especially wanted to find the women’s names and claimed that this played a key role in unraveling many mysterious murders.
