“The whole agency is devastated by the loss of Arman,” said AFP president Fabrice Fries, who praised Arman’s dedication and “brilliant” work. “His death is a terrible reminder of the risks and dangers journalists face every day while covering the conflict in Ukraine.” The rest of the video coordinator’s team were unharmed.
Human and animal
Eastern European journalist Geert Jan Hahn also praises his work. “What was so impressive about his work is that he sometimes stayed in eastern Ukraine for a long time, which proved fatal.” Soldin had an eye for any form of suffering, Hahn says.
‘It’s heartwarming when he rescues a baby hedgehog and takes him to a safer hiding place and releases him after a few days of recovery. He gave people a voice and therefore also animals, and made them visible during this terrible war.’
