Prohibition of demonstrations in cities where Macron will visit

In France, demonstrations in the capital city of Paris and Lyon have been banned due to President Emmanuel Macron’s visit on May 8, Victory Day.

Victory Day celebrations take place on May 8, 1945, symbolizing France’s victory over Germany and the end of World War II in the country. President Macron, who will attend the commemoration ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, will go to Lyon in the afternoon to commemorate Jean Moulin, one of the main actors in the French resistance against the German occupation during World War II.

The governorates of Paris and Lyon announced that all demonstrations to be held in these two cities were banned before Macron’s visits. On the other hand, it is striking that the Champs-Elysé street, which fills up with French people every year, remains empty due to the ban on gatherings.

The claim to challenge the pension reform filed before the Judiciary for the annulment of the unions was rejected due to administrative litigation. Unions in France have been holding demonstrations since January to cancel the reform that extended the retirement age by 2 years.

The French are protesting against almost all public visits by Macron and government officials in the recent period. (AA)
