Landslide in Rwanda: the death toll increases by the minute
Rwanda is experiencing the biggest natural disaster in recent years…
Heavy rains and floods, which affected the western part of the country, caused landslides. Many houses and buildings were damaged after landslides triggered by the rains that affected the Ngororero, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Rutsiro and Karongi regions.
Although it was indicated that at least 55 people lost their lives according to the first determinations, the authorities later announced that the death toll had increased. In the story that Britain’s Reuters news agency cited as “breaking”, the number of people who lost their lives in landslides was recorded as rising to 95.
Noting that many people were injured and trapped in their homes, authorities said roads were also destroyed. The disaster was also reported to have been caused by the flooding of the Sebeya River.
