Ugandan Minister of State assassinated by his bodyguard
Uganda’s Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Affairs, Charles Okello Engola, was shot dead by his bodyguard at his residence in the capital, Kampala.
According to the news reported by the Turkish BBC, the soldier who shot Engola committed suicide with the same weapon a few minutes later. It is not known why the soldier, whose identity has not yet been determined, killed Engola, 64, a retired lieutenant colonel.
However, eyewitnesses said that the soldier opened fire into the air shouting in the neighborhood. According to an eyewitness, he did not receive military salary from him, his wife was pregnant and he did not send his children to school, but the minister’s children went to school.
It is reported that other people were injured in the incident. In a video shared on social media, it is seen that many soldiers were sent to Engola’s house after the incident. It is said that many ministers came to Engola’s house.
Anita Among, Speaker of the Uganda Parliament, said in today’s parliament session: “This morning, sadly, we learned that Engola was murdered by her bodyguard. This is destiny. We cannot change anything,” she said.
Engola served as Deputy Defense Minister before being appointed Secretary of State.
