Foreign addresses have been brought to Turkey, expats can’t vote

Voting for the May 14 elections abroad continues for two days. 3.4 million Turkish voters in many countries, especially Germany, will vote until May 9. However, thousands of Turks return without being able to use the game, even though they went to the polls.

The reason is that although he lived in Europe, he made transactions in Turkey between 2018 and April 2023 using his identity. Overseas residence records of foreign Turks, who had land, population, bank, company or license registration transactions and even opened a mobile phone card, were changed.

THEY DID NOT GIVE INFORMATION WHILE THEY CHANGED

Even the addresses of those who have lived in Europe for 60 years were shown in Turkey. No information was provided about the legal consequences of this. It was surprising that the amendment, which would cause significant disruption not only to voting rights, but also to tax, residence, residence permit and health services, could be easily implemented in this way.

Therefore, those who want to go to the polls and vote, “Your address appears in Turkey. You can’t vote here. Maybe you can go there on May 14 and use it.” On the first day, hundreds of voters turned the ballot box around. This number is increasing day by day.

56 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE BUT…

Zeynep Wilking, who has lived in Frankfurt for 56 years, and her life partner Mehmet Bey are among those unable to vote. Saying that he made a transaction in Turkey due to a company transaction, Zeynep said, “They brought my address to Turkey there. Everyone who receives the ID number changes the address on the computer. They didn’t even give notice. Here we waited in line to vote. When it was my turn, they said my address was in Turkey and they didn’t make me vote. I have been in Frankfurt for 56 years. “I live here, not in Türkiye,” he said.

Another citizen was turned away by polling station officials at the same time, for the same reason.

RANGE Cult at work

Particularly influential in Germany, the sects established special services to bring voters to the AKP. The Menzil sect claims it will take voters to the polls for free, using the AKP logo in the Düsseldorf constituency.
