The British ambassador to Sudan has called on the warring parties to extend the ceasefire, which expires tonight. “The British ambassador continues to talk to the warring factions in Sudan,” a spokesman for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told reporters. “As part of that, we obviously support and lobby for an extension of the ceasefire.”
Yesterday evening the seventh, and for now last, Royal Netherlands Air Force evacuation flight from Sudan landed in Jordan. The plane arrived around 1 in the morning, the defense ministry said. It was not disclosed how many people were on board.
Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra announced on Wednesday that most of the Dutch known to the ministry have left Sudan. According to the Ministry of Defence, at least 150 Dutch are involved. About 70 of them have made previous flights. Additionally, there are several dozen Dutch citizens registered in Sudan. The ministry also gathered more than 100 people of other nationalities from Sudan.
In Sudan, hundreds of people have been killed in the conflict between the Sudanese military and rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
