12 police officers killed in bomb attack at Pakistani police station

According to the news cited by the Pakistani press about the police and health authorities, it was found that the explosions in the building of the Pakistan Anti-Terrorist Unit (CTD) occurred in the ammunition depot.

Police officials, in statements to local sources, specified that the police station was completely destroyed by the violence of the explosion and that at least 12 police officers died and more than 60 people were injured, according to the first determinations.

While the explosion that took place around 8:20pm local time was first described as a “suicide attack”, CTD chief Şevket Abbas, speaking to AA, said: “Based on our initial investigation, we have determined that It was not a suicide or bomb attack.” he used the phrase.

Abbas stated that the incident may have been caused by explosions at the ammunition depot.

Speaking to AA, Halit Sohail, one of the CTD officials, said a suicide attack was a long shot as the explosions occurred inside the building.

Stating that the investigation into the incident is continuing, Sohail added that the building where the explosion occurred was completely destroyed and some surrounding buildings were damaged.

Authorities say some of those injured in the incident are in serious condition and the death toll may rise.

After the explosion, the local press declared the incident a suicide bombing, according to some police sources.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the incident, saying: “Our nation is mourning our martyred policemen.” He had promised to “exterminate terrorism,” to use the phrase.
