Biden once again called the events of 1915 “genocide” in his statement today.
“Today we commemorate the lives we lost during Meds Yeghern and pledge once again that we will never forget them,” the written statement posted on the official White House website read.
Biden, who uses Meds Yeghern which means “Great Disaster” in Armenian, said: “Today we commemorate those who lost their lives in Meds Yeghern (Armenian Genocide) and we promise we will never forget them. On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman authorities arrested Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Istanbul and used systematic violence.
Notably, Biden referred to Istanbul as “Constantinople” this year, as he has in previous years.
