Russia is forcing Russian passports into occupied territories

In the intelligence report published by the British Ministry of Defense on the war between Russia and Ukraine, it is claimed that the authorities in the occupied regions of Ukraine forced people to accept passports from the Russian Federation.

“A TOOL FOR THE RUSISM OF THE REGIONS”

The report says Kherson residents have been warned that anyone who does not obtain a Russian passport by June 1, 2023 will be “deported” and their property confiscated.

“Russia is using the passports as a tool in the ‘Russification’ of the occupied territories, as it did in Donetsk and Luhansk before the February 2022 invasion,” the report says. Russia may be facilitating the integration of the occupied Ukraine into the Russian Federation bureaucracy to help mark the invasion as a success, especially ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
