Israeli Media: Jordanian Foreign Minister Refuses To Meet
According to the news posted by the Israel Public Broadcasting Organization (KAN) on its Twitter account, tensions erupted between Israel and Jordan after Israeli forces detained Jordanian parliamentarian Imad al-Advan in the morning.
Due to tensions, Jordanian Foreign Minister Safedi refused to have a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Cohen.
In the same context, KAN noted that the Shin-Bet (Shabak) Internal Intelligence Agency is “investigating whether this is the Jordanian lawmaker’s first smuggling operation and its purpose.” Furthermore, it was reported in the news that “the Israeli authorities will release the Jordanian deputy as soon as the investigation is completed.” Israel has yet to comment on the matter.
There were reports in the Jordanian media that the Tel Aviv administration had arrested the Jordanian lawmaker on charges of “possessing gold and weapons for smuggling.”
In a statement issued during the day, the Israeli army announced that 3 people carrying weapons and gold were detained in the vehicle that was coming from Jordan around the morning.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Sinan al-Mecali also stated that they are closely following the case of MP Advan, who was detained by Israel on charges of “arms smuggling.” (AA)
