Violence continues in Sudan: US military evacuation

The notable statements came from the US regarding Sudan, where chaos and conflicts have been going on for a while…

US President Joe Biden and Foreign Minister Antony Blinken made statements on the events in Sudan. Biden announced that the US diplomatic mission in Khartoum was temporarily closed while the US military was involved in the evacuation of US government officials in the region.

“TRAJIC VIOLENCE MUST STOP”

Biden said: “The tragic violence in Sudan must stop” and called on the parties to declare an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

Blinken said in a written statement: “The US Department of State announced that it has temporarily suspended operations at our embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, and has safely evacuated all US personnel and their families whose safety is our responsibility. . “Suspending activities at our embassy is always a difficult decision, but the safety of our staff is my primary responsibility,” he said.

Stating that he made this decision because conflicts between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces posed serious and growing security risks, Blinken said: “Large-scale conflicts have caused civilian deaths, injuries and significant damage to the infrastructure and pose an unacceptable risk to our embassy staff. “I appreciate the skill and professionalism of our field team, the US military and other elements of our government in carrying out this evacuation mission.”

“CIVILS MUST PROTECT”

Blinken stated that they will continue to help Americans in Sudan plan for their own security and will regularly provide information to American citizens in the region.

Calling on the parties to the conflicts in Sudan to extend the ceasefire immediately for Eid, Blinken noted that they reminded the parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians.

Meanwhile, the State Department issued a new travel advisory for Sudan, urging US citizens not to travel to this country, while US citizens staying there should leave the country.

PENTAGON: WE ARE INSIDE AND OUT

On the other hand, a senior official from the United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) also made statements. Details of the evacuation process were shared in breaking statements by the Reuters news agency.

“American soldiers remained in the field for an hour during the evacuation in Sudan,” the official said. “The US military plane entered and left Sudan without any problem during the evacuation in Sudan,” the official said.

On the other hand, it was reported that all the staff of the US Embassy in Khartoum were evacuated, while a small number of diplomats from other countries were evacuated. Authorities announced that about 100 people were evacuated. (AGENCIES)
