Environmentalists built a wall in the middle of the road
At the call of numerous environmental societies and associations, thousands of demonstrators demonstrated against the highway that would connect the cities of Toulouse and Castres.
As part of the demonstration, which started in the town of Saix in the Tarn province, protesters are expected to walk about 12 kilometers.
Among the protesters are opposition politicians such as Anne Stambach-Terrenoir and Sandrine Rousseau MPs.
“400 hectares of land will be destroyed”
In a written statement, the organizers argue that 53 kilometers of bitumen will be dumped as part of the road’s construction, destroying 400 hectares of land suitable for agriculture.
Images shared on social media show protesters throwing banana peels on the road and building a wall in the middle of the road.
French channel BFMTV reported that protesters set fire to hay bales and car tires in the middle of the road. (AA)
