Ilham Aliyev’s reaction to the burning of the Azerbaijani flag in Armenia
Azerbaijani President Aliyev answered questions from Azerbaijan State Television in the Salyan province, which he visited. Referring to the burning of the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championships held in Yerevan, Aliyev stressed that the incident was not an individual or a coincidence, but rather a dirty deed done deliberately by the Armenian government.
Stating that the person who carried out the incident was not punished and was declared a “hero”, Aliyev said: “Such a despicable event is taking place in front of the Armenian administration and there is no reaction about it. So, the author of this ugly event is the Armenian government, government and state.” He made his assessment.
Expressing that this event would not shake them, Aliyev said: “But they should think well. One day, they can open their eyes and see the flag of Azerbaijan above their heads.” saying.

Referring to Turkish weightlifters Cansu Bektaş and Gamze Altun, who handed over the medals they won at the championships in Yerevan to Azerbaijan, Aliyev said:

They gifted their victory to Azerbaijan. That is why they earned the love of the entire Azerbaijani people.”
Stating that he instructed the Minister of Youth and Sports Ferit Gayibov to invite the national athletes Cansu Bektaş and Gamze Altun to Azerbaijan, Aliyev said: “We are proud of them. This event will go down not only in the history of sports, but also in the history of world politics, the history of the Turkish world.
