UN announced! Sudan death toll rises

Perthes answered questions from reporters at the UN building in New York via video conference.

Noting that the clashes that began on Saturday morning are continuing, Perthes said they reached a very short-term ceasefire agreement for a few hours to ensure that the Sudanese people meet their basic needs.

“THEY PRODUCE VERY SERIOUS VIOLATIONS”

“We call on both sides to end the conflict immediately and lift the blockade on aid workers,” Perthes said. Both sides must protect UN organizations, embassies and medical facilities. Very serious violations are taking place.” he said.

Noting that it is not possible for UN organizations to continue their relief operations under attack, Perthes said staff were not allowed to leave their homes.

Noting that some regional countries and the Arab League have offered mediation, Perthes noted that the current situation is not very conducive to this, saying: “Both sides don’t seem to want much mediation or peace. Both sides are waiting for the other to give up.” he performed the assessment of it.

Special Representative Perthes stated that according to information they obtained from Sudanese doctors, hospitals and the ground, the death toll was 185 and the number of wounded was over 1,800.

“UN SECURITY COUNCIL MEETS IN SUDAN”

Announcing that the UN Security Council (UNSC) discussed the situation in Sudan in a closed session, Perthes said he welcomed the Council’s written statement immediately after the conflict.

Perthes said it is important for the UN Security Council to preserve the unity it provides, saying he believes the Council and some neighboring countries will use their influence to end the conflict. (AA)
