The EU will reduce the power consumption of devices turned off or on standby

The EU Commission has announced that there has been an update to the rules for the consumption of electricity in standby or off mode of devices under the ecodesign regulation. Consequently, various products such as televisions, washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, ovens, toasters, coffee makers, printers, video cameras, game consoles, speakers will consume less electricity in low consumption mode, turned off or in standby mode.

The power consumption of devices in the off state will not exceed 0.50 watts. 2 years after the start of the application, the power consumption of devices in the off state will not exceed 0.30 watts.

Power consumption in standby mode will also be reduced. The power consumption of waking devices shall not exceed 0.5 watts, and the power consumption of devices displaying information or status shall not exceed 0.8 watts.

Consumers will have easier access to information about the energy consumption of the device they buy, whether it is turned off or in standby mode.

The new rules will enter into force after this stage, after they are published in the Official Journal of the EU.

Manufacturers will have 2 years to comply with the new rules. With the new regulations that will make it necessary to reduce the electrical consumption of products, it is intended to save 530 million euros in energy by 2030. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
