Conflict death toll rises in Sudan
Intense clashes between the army and the HDK continued yesterday in the capital, Khartoum, as well as in several cities.
The WHO said in a statement: “Since April 15, at least 83 people have been killed and 1,126 injured in conflicts in Khartoum, South Kurdufan, North Darfur and Northern states and in different regions. The most violent clashes are taking place in Khartoum,” he said.
However, the Sudanese Medical Association made a statement today announcing that the death toll is even higher. “At least 97 civilians have been killed and 365 civilians have been injured in the conflicts in Sudan,” the statement said.
Stating that patients and health workers are experiencing difficulties accessing hospitals and severe shortages of certain medicines and medical supplies due to conflicts, the WHO urged parties to the conflict to respect impartiality in the provision of healthcare services and ensure unrestricted access to healthcare. facilities for those wounded in conflicts.
WHO reminded all parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect the wounded, sick, civilians, medical workers, ambulances and medical facilities.
