According to the document, China has approved the “phased supply” of weapons and is expected to keep it secret by disguising the weapons as civilian items. The timing of this leak is remarkable, as China said today it would not ship any arms to either Ukraine or Russia.
The Americans reportedly got their hands on the information through wiretaps of the SVR, Russia’s top foreign intelligence agency. The information was archived in a top-secret directory of recent documents relating to Ukraine and Russia. It was one of the documents leaked on the Discord platform in recent days, for which 21-year-old Jack Douglas Teixeira was arrested.
Egypt
China is not the first country to leak such information. It emerged earlier this week that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi also wanted to produce more than 40,000 missiles for Russia in the war against Ukraine. Sisi then ordered his officials to keep the order secret to “avoid problems with the West,” writes the Washington Post.
