US sanctions on Turkish companies
The United States has imposed sanctions on at least four Turkey-based organizations that violated export restrictions to Russia and supported Russia in the war.
These sanctions are the biggest step the United States has taken against Turkey since the Ukraine war that began last year.
THERE ARE MORE THAN 120 PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS
The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury Department, target more than 120 individuals and organizations in more than 20 countries.
Among the Turkey-based organizations sanctioned are an electronics company and a technology trading company accused of helping to ship “dual-use” products, which can be used by both civilians and the military, to Russia.
In a statement to Reuters, the US official stated that Turkey-based institutions and individuals operating in the maritime and commercial field, who are targeted by sanctions, are “linked to Russia” or “controlled by Russia.”
James O’Brien, head of the US State Department’s Office of Sanctions Coordination, said in a statement last week that they would review trade figures for March and April and expected to see a significant decline in trade with Russia.
