Myanmar army airstrike: at least 100 dead
An airstrike was claimed to have been carried out in the town of Pa Zi Gyi in Myanmar’s Sagaing region, targeting a ceremony attended by approximately 150 people, including dissidents.
At least 100 people, including 15 women and about 20 children, were reported to have lost their lives during the ceremony.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said the attack started around 07:00 with warplanes and then the area was attacked by helicopters.
The witness pointed out that the attack lasted about 20 minutes, adding that they did not know the exact number of deaths due to the lack of integrity of the bodies and that the figure could be much higher.
It was recorded that the airstrike by the Myanmar army was carried out on the same day as many people from the surrounding area attended the opening of the People’s Defense Forces Office (PDF) in Pa Zi Gyi.
The “civilian government”, the National Unity Government (NUG), made up of the politicians of deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who did not accept the military government after the coup as legitimate, said in a statement on the subject: “This heinous act of the terrorist army is that the excessive and indiscriminate use of force against innocent civilians constitutes a war crime, is one more example.” He used his statements.
It was claimed that at least 80 people were killed in an airstrike carried out by the Myanmar military during the anniversary celebrations of the Kachin ethnic minority, one of the armed groups, in October 2022.
