Female Dalai Lama
It’s not the first time the Dalai Lama has had to apologize after making a controversial statement. Earlier, he said that “if she is a female Dalai Lama, she must be pretty,” because otherwise she “doesn’t make sense.”
The Tibetan religious leader apologized on Twitter after protests over the incident in India. In it, the Dalai Lama says he wants to apologize to the boy, his family and many friends around the world for “the pain that his words may have caused”. “His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and on camera,” the Dalai Lama said in a statement.
The Dalai Lama has been in India for years, as has the Tibetan government, due to tensions with China. China sees him as the leader of a separatist movement fighting for the independence of Tibet, which is controlled by China.
