The US Department of Defense is investigating how the documents ended up on Twitter and Telegram. It would concern the preparation of an imminent Ukrainian offensive against Russia, in the form, among other things, of overviews of planned arms deliveries and troop numbers, according to the American newspaper.
Disinformation campaign
According to New York Times sources, the documents have been changed in some places. In particular, estimates of Russian war dead would be revised downwards, while the number of dead on the Ukrainian side would be overestimated. This could indicate that Russia is behind the possible disinformation campaign.
Earlier this week, the United States announced it would provide Ukraine with new military support worth $2.6 billion (€2.37 billion). The package includes ammunition for the US-supplied Himar rocket launchers. The documents state, among other things, how quickly Ukraine runs out of Himar ammunition.
