Britain will accommodate immigrants on board
A giant ship will be used to house asylum seekers, the UK Home Office said in a statement to reduce pressure on the asylum system and the cost to taxpayers of the significant increase in illegal immigrant crossings through of the English Channel.
In the statement, it was noted that the giant ship, which will dock at Portland harbor on the Dorset coast and operate for at least 18 months, will house approximately 500 single male asylum seekers.
In the statement, it was indicated that while the refugees’ applications are being processed, they will remain on the ship at the same time, and basic and functional accommodation, food and health services will be provided on the ship.
In the statement, it was mentioned that the ship named “Bibby Stockholm” will reduce the placement of asylum seekers in hotels, and it was also noted that this practice would provide a more organized, less expensive and sustainable housing system.
On the other hand, the statement stressed that people whose claims were rejected and whose appeal rights were lost would be expelled from the UK.
“THE DAILY COST OF ACCOMMODATION OF ASYLUM SEEKERS IN THE HOTEL IS 6 MILLION STERLIAS”
Robert Jenrick, Britain’s Home Office Deputy Immigration Minister, stated in his speech to parliament on March 29 that they plan to house irregular migrants and asylum seekers who entered the country illegally in former military bases instead of hotels.
Saying that the government is also looking into the possibility of using boats and launches, but no final decision has been made, Jenrick said the government will not put the welfare of illegal immigrants above the British people.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also stated in an earlier statement that the cost to taxpayers of irregular migrants staying in hotels is around £6m a day, which is unsustainable. (AA)
