There was a lot of talk about their matches… Sanna Marin’s decision to resign
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who created controversy throughout her tenure with her crazy parties and anti-traditional style, resigned from the leadership of her party after the electoral defeat.
In Finland’s general election on Sunday, the conservative National Coalition Party won first place, while the True Finns Party came second. The Social Democratic Party (SDP), led by Marin, 37, came in third.
The current cabinet, headed by Marin, was made up of the coalition that included the Social Democratic Party, the Center Party, the Green Union, the Left Alliance and the Swedish People’s Party. According to the election results, the number of deputies in the current cabinet cannot exceed 100, and a new coalition of right-wing parties is expected to form.
Accepting defeat, Sanna Marin announced today at a press conference that she resigned from the leadership of the Social Democratic Party. Marín said that he would not assume the post of minister and that he would continue to serve as a deputy in the new parliament.
Noting that he did not receive a job offer from an international institution, Marin said he hoped to lead a quieter life.
Negotiations for a new coalition government are expected to begin in the country and the new government will be announced.
