Iran appoints UAE ambassador after 7 years

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, the Foreign Ministry has appointed Reza Amiri as ambassador to Abu Dhabi.

It was noted that Amiri will soon be going to Abu Dhabi to start her new job.

Reza Amiri, Director General for Iranians Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, previously served as Iran’s ambassador to Algeria, Sudan and Eritrea.

On January 2, 2016, 47 people, including Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, were executed in Saudi Arabia on “terrorism” charges. Thereupon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Sudan severed diplomatic relations with Iran, while the UAE reduced its relations to the level of chargé d’affaires and recalled Seyf Muhammed Ubeyd ez-Zeabi, who served as Tehran’s ambassador, to his country.

As a result of the negotiations between the two countries, Seyf Muhammed Ubeyd ez-Zeabi, who was recalled to his country in 2016 when he was the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Tehran, arrived in Iran on September 9, 2022 to resume his former duty. after a break of about 7 years. (AA)
