Sources speaking to the Reuters news agency said the Saudi Arabian administration is preparing to invite Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the Arab League summit in Riyadh in May. Speaking to the agency, three different sources said that work in this direction continues.
It was claimed that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Ferhan plans to visit Damascus in the coming weeks and officially invite Assad. Assad’s official participation in the summit scheduled for May 19 in Riyadh will go down in history for the first time since 2011. In 2011, Syria was expelled from the Arab League. Many Western and Arab countries had decided to boycott Syria and Assad because of what happened in the country.
