Avalanche claims 4 lives in Norway
The Norwegian police announced yesterday that avalanches occurred in different parts of the north of the country and 4 people, one of them a foreign tourist, lost their lives.
In a statement, the Norwegian police announced that self-inflicted avalanche disasters occurred in the north of the country due to heavy snowfall.
In the avalanche that occurred in Storslette, one person from the tourist group died last night when they were caught in an avalanche. As a result of the avalanche-related landslide in Lyngen, one person in 5 foreign tourists skiing in the region died and another injured person was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The police claimed that the evacuation of the trapped people had been carried out and that they had verified the identity of the deceased tourist.
The Police have specified that yesterday there was a landslide due to an avalanche on a farm in Reinoya, and the house where 2 people lived and the stable with minor livestock were swept into the sea.
Emphasizing that there are too many avalanches in the region at this time of year, the authorities announced that they have decided to evacuate all houses and tourist centers from Saterelva to Grotneselva. (DHA)
