Visit of the President of the Spanish Government to China
The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, asked the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, to deepen relations with the European Union (EU) and to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine to guarantee peace in Ukraine.
Sánchez met with President Xi Jinping as part of his two-day official visit to China and then held a press conference at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing. Noting that he asked Cinping to deepen its relations with the EU and, in this context, support the just and lasting peace that Spain and the EU want in Ukraine, Sánchez said: “I have asked President Xi to meet with President (Volodimir) Zelenskiy for I knew the peace plan firsthand from the Ukrainian government, I encouraged it,” he said.
Sánchez accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “trying to weaken the EU project” and said: “The EU is a project of peace and coexistence. In this context, Russia cannot violate Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. I reject and condemn Putin’s attacks on Ukraine.”I reject the threat to use nuclear weapons,” he said.
The President of the Spanish Government stressed the importance of helping Ukraine in all fields, such as humanitarian, economic and military supplies.
Sánchez is the first head of government of EU and NATO member states to meet Cinping after his visit to Russia in recent weeks, while French President Emmanuel Macron and the president of the Commission are expected to of the EU, Ursula Von der Leyen, visit Beijing in the coming weeks. . (AA)
