President TRNC Tatar: It is necessary to draw the framework to sit at the negotiating table

As part of his contacts in London, the capital of England, Tatar met with representatives of non-governmental organizations and youth from the Turkish Cypriot community at the TRNC London Branch.

Listening to the issues and demands, Tatar stressed the importance of the support of the Turkish Cypriot community living in England and asked them to contribute to efforts to strengthen the new policy in unity.

After the meeting, President Tatar’s book entitled “Vision of two states in Cyprus” was launched.

In his speech here, Tatar thanked those who contributed to the preparation of the book, noting that the vision of a two-state solution was explained in the book and good work emerged.

“TURKISH CYPRUS WILL CONTINUE TO EXPLAIN THE CASE AND YOUR RIGHTS”

In subsequent statements to Anadolu Agency (AA), Tatar stated that he met with British MPs and journalists and discussed the Turkish Cypriots’ cause and struggle.

Referring to the attempt to prevent him from entering a lecture at a London university yesterday, Tatar noted that the action in question was aimed at preventing the Turkish Cypriot people from making their voices heard.

Tatar said: “After all, the fact that this insult towards me is actually a disrespect, an insult and an attack on the Turkish Cypriot people has also happened throughout the Turkish world. Therefore, the other party will probably learn a lesson from this.” saying.

Underlining that the Turkish Cypriots will continue to explain their cause and justice, Tatar stressed that if there is to be a deal on Cyprus, it must be in accordance with the principle of two separate states.

Tatar pointed out that no one could force the TRNC to accept a settlement by imposition.

“WE DON’T BELIEVE HE WILL SAY ANYTHING DIFFERENT”

Asked if any dynamism is expected in the Cyprus talks after Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) leader Nikos Christodoulides, Tatar said: “Now, of course, they are trying to lure us into some places, but it is necessary to establish the framework to sit at the negotiating table. Within this framework, of course, our sovereign equality and equitable international status must be established so that our common ground can be affirmed.” he gave the answer.

Tatar recalled that Christodoulides was in fact elected with the support of extremist elements, said “no” to the Annan Plan in the past, and played a major role in overthrowing the negotiating table at the Crans-Montana conference.

President Tatar concluded his speech as follows:

“In that sense, we don’t think he would say anything different. That’s why what we’re saying is, yes, there can be relationships, there can be informal talks, but the framework has to be determined to get to the official negotiating table. When that framework is determined, it will reveal its difference compared to the others. What is his approach towards the Turkish Cypriots? Will you accept our sovereign equality or not? If not, there is no point in sitting at the official negotiating table.” (AA)
