Russia arrests US journalist on suspicion of espionage

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that the US citizen Moscow correspondent for US newspaper The Wall Street Journal was detained on suspicion of spying in the city of Yekaterinburg.

In the statement issued by the Russian intelligence FSB, it was recalled that Evan Gershkovic, who works as a correspondent in the Moscow office of The Wall Street Journal, has accreditation with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Illegal activity by Gershkovic, suspected of spying for the US government, was blocked, and the following statements were used in the statement:

“It was determined that Evan Gershkovich, following the instructions given by the American, collected information that constitutes a state secret about the activities of one of the companies in the Russian military-industrial complex. The foreign national in question was detained in Yekaterinburg while trying to obtain classified information.”

In the statement, it was noted that an investigation has been launched to prosecute Gershkovic, a US citizen, on espionage charges. (AA)
