Sweden summons the Russian ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Sweden summoned the Russian ambassador in Stockholm to the Foreign Ministry after he announced that Sweden would become “a legitimate target for Russian retaliatory measures” if it joined NATO.
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström described the statement posted on the Russian embassy website as “an obvious attempt to influence”.
Billström told the Swedish news agency TT that he was summoned to the Foreign Ministry over Russian Ambassador Viktor Tatarintsev’s statement that the country would become “a legitimate target for Russia’s retaliatory measures” if it joined NATO, it is only determined by the government of the country. No one else’s.” he used his statements.
Sweden and neighboring Finland applied for joint NATO membership after the start of the Russia-Ukraine War.
While the approval process for Finland’s application for NATO membership is in the process of being finalized, Sweden’s application is awaiting approval from Turkey and Hungary. (AA)
