Mike Pence to Testify at Congressional Raid on January 6

The DC District Court has rejected the former vice president’s “executive privilege” argument to avoid testifying before the grand jury investigating his efforts to disrupt the 2020 election, sources familiar with the matter told CNN and ABC.

Federal Judge James Boasberg ruled that Pence had to respond to a call from former Attorney General Jack Smith, who was appointed as an authorized special expert in the investigations of “confidential documents” and the “January 6 congressional raid” on former President Donald Trump.

On the other hand, the resolution indicated that Pence could refuse to answer questions about his actions on January 6, when he served as president of the Senate to confirm the 2020 presidential election.

Experts noted that Pence has the right to appeal Judge Boasberg’s decision.

PENCE DECLARES THAT HE HAS IMMUNITY

In February, Special Enforcement Attorney General Smith sent Pence an official subpoena to testify before a jury about his conversations with Trump as part of the investigation into the January 6 congressional raid, and Pence and his lawyers argued that, according to the Constitution, the vice president had immunity in connection with his duties.

“I will fight the Justice Department’s subpoena for Biden to testify before a grand jury because I believe it is unconstitutional and unprecedented,” Pence said. he had used the words.

Trump’s lawyers also filed in the same court in a separate filing requesting that Pence’s testimony be limited because of “executive privilege” that protects certain communication between the president and vice president.

That is why the federal court decision is being seen as “the latest defeat for Trump’s legal team in their efforts to limit their calls to testify against grand juries investigating the former president of the United States on a variety of issues.” (AA)
