Syrian newspaper announced: New date announced in Ankara-Damascus meeting

The Al Vatan newspaper, which is close to Bashar Assad’s administration in Syria, announced that the new round of meetings on the normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria will be held in Moscow on April 3-4.

The newspaper stated that the deputy foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran will attend the meeting.

It was announced that the meeting, which had been scheduled for March 15-16, had been postponed for “technical reasons.” Before the postponement decision, Syrian leader Assad, who visited Moscow, had stipulated the withdrawal of Turkish soldiers from his country to meet with President Tayyip Erdogan.

The sources told Al Vatan that Damascus continues to insist that “Turkey reduce support for opposition groups and withdraw troops from the country.” The sources also reported that a four-way meeting at the level of defense ministers is also on the agenda.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov also stated that preparations for the four-party meeting are continuing, saying: “I think it will be in Moscow in early April.”
