Support for Macron fell sharply in a month

The opinion poll conducted in France revealed that the popularity of President Emmanuel Macron fell 6 points in a month due to anti-retirement protests in the country.

More than 70 percent of French people think Macron is not a good president, according to a poll by the BVA public opinion research group. Macron’s popularity has fallen to the lowest level since he took office at 28 percent.

His popularity fell 6 points from the previous month due to Macron’s insistence on the controversial pension reform.

On the other hand, the popularity of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who directly accepted the reform without presenting it to parliament, fell 2 points to the lowest level since she took office in May 2022.

Two-thirds of those polled want the controversial reform to raise the retirement age by 2 years, from 62 to 64, to be withdrawn.

The survey was conducted on March 24 and 25 with 1,000 people over the age of 18, representing the country’s population. Macron’s popularity had topped 34 percent in polls conducted in previous months. (AA)
