Two countries suspended flights to Israel
Some airlines suspended flights to Israel after flights were halted due to the strike launched at Ben Gurion in reaction to the government’s judicial regulation.
According to reports from Israel-based news site Walla, flights to Israel on Air Canada and the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) national carrier Etihad have been cancelled.
It was noted that the companies in question feared that their planes and crews would be stranded in Israel due to the strike at Ben Gurion Airport.
HAVE DECIDED TO CANCEL
Israel Airports Administration spokesman Ofer Lefler said 22 flights were delayed for more than half an hour and one plane from Abu Dhabi decided to cancel its flight due to the strike.
Lefler indicated that they have already decided to complete the procedures for the departure of passengers until the flights resume.
The Israel Airport Employees Union announced that they went on strike after the government failed to suspend judicial regulation.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin announced on January 5 that they were planning a “judicial reform” that would limit the powers of the Supreme Court and provide for the power to have a say in judicial appointments.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced tonight that he will delay judicial regulation that has sparked mass protests and strikes across the country for 13 weeks. (AA)
