South Africa suffers from water shortages

In his statement, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, expressed concern about water shortages across the country, saying that the situation is even more critical, especially in Gauteng, the country’s largest province.

Mchunu asserted that the daily water supply in Gauteng province does not meet demand, saying, “We have a daily shortage of 300 million liters at the point of meeting water demand in Gauteng.”

UNKNOWN WHEN THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED

Johannesburg, which is considered the economic heart of the country and has a population of 6 million, is one of the places hardest hit by the current water shortage.

While water shortages in the southern parts of the city have been going on for weeks, there have been hours of water outages in the city center and its suburbs since early last week.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Mayor Thapelo Amad said that while they are doing their best to resolve the water issue, it is unclear when it will be resolved due to a lack of coordination between the companies that supply water to the city.

The country’s executive capital, Pretoria, and its largest city, Johannesburg, are located in the Gauteng province. (AA)
