France pension riots: Louvre Museum entrances closed

In Paris, the capital of France, workers in the cultural sector took action by closing the entrance to the Louvre Museum in response to the controversial pension reform.

In French press images, cultural workers from the General Business Union (CGT) gathered in front of the glass and metal pyramid in the museum courtyard with union flags in hand.

The crowd, which blocked the entrances passing in front of the museum doors, said: “Retirement at 60 years old. They carried banners that read: “Work little to live more” and “We won’t back down”.

The demonstrations that broke out on March 16 after the government’s decision to approve the bill that raises the retirement age by 2 years, without a vote, continue in France. Violence is taking place in many parts of the country between the police and protesters, who have violently intervened in the demonstrations.

More than 1,000 people have been detained in protests across the country since March 16. (AA)
