Frankfurt said SPD again

Frankfurt, the financial center of Germany, will again be governed by the Social Democratic Party (SPD). In the elections held yesterday, the SPD candidate, Mike Josef, obtained 51.7% of the votes and became mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality. His rival from the Christian Democratic Party, Uwe Becker, received 48.3 percent of the vote.

The previous mayor, Peter Feldmann, was ousted by popular vote over allegations that his Turkish wife Zübeyde was paid a high salary and used electoral support from the social welfare organization AWO.

CDU WAS VERY AHEAD IN THE FIRST ROUND

Re-election followed in early March, but no single candidate could pass 50 percent. The CDU’s Uwe Becker won 34.5 percent of the vote in the first round, while the SPD got 24 percent.

Mike Josef took the lead in yesterday’s elections after the Greens, the Left Party and independent candidates made statements in favor of the SPD.
