Racist and anti-religious attacks on the rise in France
SSMSI, the statistics service of the Ministry of the Interior, has published a report on acts of racism, religion and xenophobia that took place in France in 2022.
According to the report, the “social climate” continues to deteriorate in the country, beyond the demonstrations over inflation and the pension reform.
In 2022, there was a 5 percent increase in racist, xenophobic or anti-religious attacks in France compared to 2021, and a total of 12,600 crimes were recorded, most of which were insults, provocations and defamation.
AFRICANS ARE MORE OBJECTIVE
Most of those who have been subjected to racist attacks are Afro-descendants between the ages of 25 and 54.
Although the perpetrators of the attack were generally older than the victims, it should be noted that the majority of the victims were women.
While discriminatory and racist attacks in the country are mainly seen on the continent, where the capital Paris and its suburbs Seine-Saint-Denis and the Bas-Rhin region are located, such incidents are relatively less common in the regions overseas.
The French Minister of Education, Pap Ndiaye, announced the establishment of the committee for the “National Plan to Combat Racism, Anti-Semitism and Discrimination based on Origin”, presented by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on “March 21, International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination”.
